# wait

> Pause execution for a fixed duration in milliseconds.

Sleeps for `ms` milliseconds before moving on. Prefer an `assert` with a
`timeout` or an element check when there is a concrete signal to wait for.

## Parameters

| Parameter | Type      | Required | Description                                                 |
| --------- | --------- | -------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| `ms`      | `number`  | Yes      | Milliseconds to wait.                                       |
| `saveAs`  | `string`  | No       | Variable to store this step's return value on `env.<name>`. |
| `retries` | `number`  | No       | Times to retry the step on failure before failing the test. |
| `skipped` | `boolean` | No       | Skip this step at execution time.                           |

## Shorthand

Milliseconds as a number.

```yaml theme={null}
- wait: 5000
```
