# wait

> Pause execution for a fixed duration in milliseconds.

Sleeps for `ms` milliseconds before moving on. Event-based waits (`waitForUrl`,
`checkElementVisible`, `assert` with `timeout`) are usually a better fit when
there is a concrete signal to wait for.

## Parameters

| Parameter | Type      | Required | Description                                                           |
| --------- | --------- | -------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `ms`      | `number`  | Yes      | Milliseconds to wait.                                                 |
| `saveAs`  | `string`  | No       | Name of the variable to write this step's return value to.            |
| `retries` | `number`  | No       | Number of times to retry the step on failure before failing the test. |
| `skipped` | `boolean` | No       | Skip this step at execution time.                                     |

## Shorthand

Milliseconds as a number.
